Supplies Students Need To Have
- Sewing machine in good working order, capable of stitching through 4 layers of denim.
- A walking foot is helpful.
- Free motion foot. If you are new to free motion quilting, consult with your machine’s manual to make sure your machine is set up correctly for free motion quilting and you have the right foot. Test by lowering your feed dogs and free motion quilting a bit on a quilt sandwich. Many machines do not come with a free motion foot so you may need to get one for your machine.
- Jean jacket that fits you well. Needs to have a center back panel that fills most of the back. This is where we will replace the existing panel with sheer screening. Can be any color.
- Enough white plastic screening material to make two layers to fill the space of the back panel, plus 1” extra on all sides. Screening material is readily available on Amazon or your local hardware store.
- Sheer fabrics in variety of colors; patterns can add interest. My jacket is nature inspired so I used 5 greens and 6 flower colors. Splotchy patterns will yield several looks from one piece and ombres will give a variety of values.
- Tracing paper large enough to cover the back panel with extra along the edges. You can tape pieces together to make it large enough.
- Quality black thread, can be poly or cotton, mid-weight like 50 or 40 weight threads.
- Size 80 topstitch needle.
- Jeans topstitching thread in color to closely match the stitching on your jacket.
- Size 100 topstitch needle.
- Straight pins, tape measure, scissors, thread snips.
