Rocks, Pebbles, and Stones, Oh My!

Supplies Students Need To Have

• Background fabric – 14″ x 22″ or similar – your choice of size

• Batting: 1″ larger all around than your background fabric (for ex: 16″ x 24″)

• Backing fabric: Same size as batting fabric

• Temporary self adhesive to hold the layers together (such as Odif 505) OR

• Pins to hold the layers together to free-motion quilt

• Muslin – 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ or larger – 1-4 squares

• Timtex / Peltex – or similar – ó yd. should be enough to start – this is a stiff batting that is hard to fold (used in the bills of baseball caps)

• Batting remnants – cotton, polyester, etc.

• Template plastic or thin cardboard to make the patterns

• Thread to match the fabrics

• Hand sewing needles

• Thin thread for appliquéing the pebbles to the background fabric

• Pebbles and rocks for inspiration

• 5″ or 6″ embroidery hoop (or larger) – if purchasing larger, the muslin pieces will need to be cut larger to fit in the hoop

• Some fabrics to use to make pebbles and rocks

• Pins

• Glue stick

• Thread snips or a small pair of scissors for snipping threads

• Fabric scissors

• Paper scissors

• Pen, pencil and eraser

• Fine permanent marker

• Sewing machine in good working order

• Free-motion quilting foot

• Thin cardboard such as file folders

• Spray Starch

• Small brush like a round no. 8

• Iron and ironing pad
