Make an accordion-style book using old fabrics (rags) to create a new beautiful book! We will explore a variety of techniques: simple fabric painting, basic machine sewing (to construct the substrate), and easy hand-embroidery. The book can stand up proudly on its knitting needle legs or it can fold to be tucked away.
Your kit will include a wide variety of fabrics including vintage linens, bar mops, flour sacks, (new) diaper cloth, paint rags, upholstery scraps, cheesecloth, utility fabrics, crochet motifs, and felt, ready to be painted. If you choose to paint your fabrics prior to class, I will hold an optional short zoom meeting about one week before class with simple instructions to demonstrate this process. This will give you a head-start, allowing your painted fabrics to dry before class. The zoom meeting will also be recorded and available for you to watch later and the fabric painting instructions will be repeated during the class.
Please note: I will be demonstrating this project as a landscape but you may venture off and design your own scene, if desired. This entire project, including the book construction, can be done with hand-sewing. And this is not a one-day project but we will get a good start on your magical accordion book.
