Libby Williamson

Life = Art = Life.  Growing up with professional artist parents, Libbys childhood was a wonder-world of fabric scraps, pins and needles, paint, Elmers Glue, and a whole lot of Scotch Tape.  Afternoons were spent creating craft storms, embroidering on anything that could hold a stitch, and learning the fine art of patchwork quilting. As a Studio Art major in college, Libby’s concentration was in printmaking. This background has led to a passion in surface design which is reflected in her current work. Though she has constructed many a quilt with traditional quilting techniques, she has little patience for matching seams and precision sewing. Libby’s current focus is in the making of fiber art using layers of hand-painted fabric and paper, scratchy free-motion stitched texture and incorporating rope and embedded found objects. These unique fiber art quilts have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. She is a proud hoarder of all things fiber” and thrives in a world of stitch and sew.

Libby teaches art quilting and mixed-media techniques in her studio in Orange, CA and at destination retreats. She holds state  teaching certifications in CA and NY for studio art and has a love and passion for teaching. She has appeared on Quilting Arts TV, The Quilt Show, and has published many articles in Quilting Arts Magazine. In Libby’s world, not much can trump paint-stained fingers, needles and thread, and a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Libbywilliamson.com
